…a conversation I had with Mackenzie two days ago while we were driving and I was listening to talk radio:
M- “Barack Obama…what’s Barack Obama?”
J- “Barack Obama is the name of a man that is running for president.”
M- “President…you mean like George Washington?”
J- ”Well, George Washington was our first president. Do you know who our president is right now?”
M- “Yeah…George W. Bush”
J- ”You’re right. Well, his turn to be president is almost over and so there are two men who are now wanting to be president of the United States. One is Barack Obama and the other one is John McCain.”
M- ”Ummmm…I think I want John McCain to be president.”
J- “Oh Kenzie, your daddy would be so proud.”:)

….was “Awesome” according to Jackson. That was the one word he used when I asked him to describe it. Kinda makes all my worry seem a little silly…Oh well…I’m sure it won’t be the last time I worry for nothing about my kids! Here are some pics…
We’ll miss you Jack…
I’m posting this picture against my better judgement…chubby pregnant face and all…
and Daddy too…
We were all planning on taking him to school, but then as he was eating breakfast he said, “Can’t you just drop me off at the curb?” I remained calm, but in my mind I was thinking..”What…drop you off at the curb on your first day? You are only in first grade!!” So we compromised and I just took him to school and walked him to his table in the cafeteria…
We ended the day by celebrating with grandma at Coldstone…yummy!
A very good day…:)

…saw this idea on another blog and loved it so we decided to give it a try. Jackson starts school tomorrow and Mackenzie and Tucker start next week so we decided to have a special family dinner to celebrate a new year in school…

Galen and I picked a “family motto” for this year and a verse…

It was fun to hear how the kids wanted to encourage one another, their teachers, cousins, and friends. One of the biggest highlights was drinking sparkling grape juice from a “real glass cup” and saying “cheers” after Daddy toasted to “the best looking kids in all of Texas and the world!”

We each picked a “goal” for ourselves for this school year. Galen and I took the liberty of choosing Tucker’s… for him to master the fine art of GOING POTTY!

It was a fun night…

And because I’m a big believer in “keeping it real”…here is what my kitchen floor looked like behind that pretty table…:)

…went to “meet the teacher” last night and my heart feels a bit more at peace. Such a process this mothering thing…so thankful for God’s word and for a husband who is always the calm, voice of reason…

…we’ve been back since last Friday, but the list of “to do’s” has been long this week.
It’s been one of those days…
-everybody needs something, and I’m the only one that can do it
-wondering if my 3 year old will ever get this potty training thing…I keep saying he won’t walk into kindergarten in a Pull-Up…but some days I wonder
-feeling like I can’t believe that summer is over and why didn’t I do all the fun things I wanted to do with the kids
-feeling so uneasy about the teacher that Jackson will have for next year…trying so hard to not let other’s opinions form mine before I have really gotten to know her, but it’s hard…I’m struggling. I was a teacher…I know better than to jump to conclusions before the year has even begun, but my mama heart just wants the very best for him. It’s hard to face the truth that sometimes God’s best for my child might involve struggle.
-These words keep coming out of my mouth…”this is not my first choice for him”, but God’s word says…”Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows…” (I Sam 2:3)
-He knows…He knows…He knows…I will keep saying this until my heart feels what my mind knows to be true.
This process of letting go is rough…and he’s only six…:)

- They’re both second children.
- They both LOVE steak. She’d choose to eat at Outback Steakhouse every night if we let her. :)
- When we get in the van she asks Galen if he’ll put on her “rock songs”. Her current favorite is David Cook’s American Idol version of “Hungry Like a Wolf”. You should see her rock out in her car seat. It makes her Daddy so proud, and her brothers think it is hilarious!
- They are “nap buddies”. She hates taking a nap by herself and very easily can talk her Daddy into taking a nap with her!
- They are both peacemakers, servants, and have incredibly kind hearts.
I’m so blessed that she is so much like her Daddy…

P.S. ”mini-galen” and I are heading on a girls trip with Lauren, Mia, and Georgia. Mia and Mackenzie are going to be doing a week long day camp together. I’ll be back on Friday…
…my niece Isabella is here staying with my parents for a few days. She came to spend the day with us today and so we decided to do something fun…cooking.
We started by making some aprons. Every good chef needs an apron…
Then we started the cooking! We melted some white and milk chocolate and the kids dipped to their hearts content…strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and marshmallows.

Then we moved on to donuts…yummy!
And then… just so I didn’t have mom guilt…we made some healthy smoothies…
…Of course the best part was eating what we made! Thanks Jake and Marie for sharing Isabella with us. We had a great day!

…after a summer full of hearing “I’m bored” and answering with my standard, “It’s a choice to be bored. There are plenty of things to do.” I was pleasantly surprised to turn around from making dinner and see this…

On their own, everyone had found something to do…amazing! Of course 5 minutes after these pictures were taken Tucker started crumbling up his papers and throwing them at Jackson, but for those five whole minutes…it was lovely!:)
